I've learned... not to set any expectations in life because they can end up just disappointing you. I thought I had that figured out... I had no expectations for my birthday.
It was still horrible.
I had the worst time obtaining tickets to begin with, and finally my dad was kind enough to purchase them online as a birthday present for me.
We meticulously planned the whole weekend out... and it all went down so smoothly...
We found a nice hotel room, we got over on time, we watched the Santa Claus parade and started drinking within enough time before the concert started...
Since we had to pick our tickets up before hand, and wanted to know where the club SUGAR was, we left a little early and arrived there before anyone else.
My boyfriend went through the open door and upstairs to find out about the tickets and met Mr. Drummer Ray while he was up there.
When he came back outside a cab pulled up and tiny little K-os jumped out and my boyfriend said a quick hello...
We were excited.
Finally, the line up starts forming and we meet 2 guys while standing in line.
Let it be known- they hadn't even heard Atlantis yet... hadn't even heard any of the singles at the very least.
Once inside, after we had had a drink, my boyfriend noticed that his cousin was behind stage with Concise, Red1 and some others. We went backstage and were talking with his cousin for a long while before he had to take off to perform.
Then, we went into a backroom and started to roll a joint just as the opening act was starting.
K-OS walked through the room, and within a minute of him passing by a bouncer was on us like white on rice.
Took the bag of weed, instructed us to follow him outside and kicked us out of the concert.
I've rolled many joints in Vancouver clubs- and never once been kicked out, ever. I am sorry if things are different in Victoria, I was not aware of that...
He didn't care.
Or that it was my birthday, and that we had come all the way from Vancouver to be there, that we had spent each of our pay cheques to cover the whole weekend... we spent our grocery money on trying to make that weekend work out.
He didn't care.
He was getting off on being an a$$. You know how you can tell with some people? That little smirk they hold when they know they have power of someone?
I was disgusted.
Anyhow... the end of the night, Red1 was nice enough to introduce me to Ray the drummer and we were able to rant a little bit towards him...
He was amazingly nice to us, and put up with my boyfriends drunken ignorant ramblings for a long while...and reminded me of the machine.
The end of it all...
K-os, your music is unreal and absolutely inspirational to me... it always has been...
My experience at your concert was tainted- yet at the same time, amazing...
I really wanted to be able to meet you after the show- before hand, the 2 chances I had to speak to you I didn't feel like it was necessary, I was only there to enjoy the show and your performance...
But, afterwards, I really, really, just wanted so badly to see you and let it be known how much your music has followed me through my discovery since I wasn't able to enjoy the experience of hearing you all play your music live.
And also- if you ever perform in Victoria again, I would recommend you trying to find another venue besides Sugar.

Man . . . that sucks yo. Since when does someone get kicked out of a club for rolling a doob backstage. And like, not just be given a warning or an explanation but to be kicked out. That's messed up right there. I can't believe you guys couldn't talk your way out of it. And I know what you mean how with some people there just isn't any talking to. Professional ######heads. Man, that sucks.

Well, at least you got to meet Red1 which i'm sure must have been cool. Too bad the security was being so lame.

Holy crap, that sucks.

It's never a problem at the Commodore in Vancouver, and it wasn't last week at the K-os concert.

What the fun police.

A note to Laser.Beam if he's reading: I have to bring it up: in Whistler you said something like "There's a lot of weed up in here; you really shouldn't do that." Interesting in that a fan who obviously holds your words closely hasn't taken any advice. No, I am not suggesting an end to such statements but I think people have to have a reason. Telling them it's not a good idea only sounds awfully parental (Sunday morning is closer than you think?). I'm not sure why people use it. Perhaps they need it to feel good. I can only speak for myself, but I feel pretty good. I have no need to use outside devices to alter my mind state or my emotions or feelings. I eat/drink/use to live; I don't live to eat/drink/use. Anyways, that's my perspective. I can only be me, and you can only be you, Cutelilchica and others. Too bad about missing out. Perhaps there's something else to attribute it to; other than karma.

Maybe the topic of the title should be replaced with "The BEST concert that never was"...
Maybe I should have re-read my scribbles with a new perspective before I went and copied it off onto the forum with my mind on other thoughts that night.
But I didn't.
Now.
Me wanting to share with this persona we call k-os, this person Kheaven who most don't really know, or even Mr. Beam who is the equation of both after the concert was more than me wanting to gush. He helped me find my own self...by being his own self.
He helped me realize how its possible to reach within and follow your own self, and proved to me just how amazing it would be, to just be, through the words in his lyrics...
Maybe its better to hear that than see "The Watchers"...
Not some fanatical spasmatic gushing- I had the chance, but my intentions instead was to be there for the music that night, my way of saying thanks. Being out there and feeling the music, not just hearing it, but feeling it.
I did hurt when I couldn't do that.

But there actually was something that I learned from that experience, and no it wasn't me quitting weed.
It was actually my ability to walk away from a negative experience and float on.
Maybe that was my karma?
The reflection of my thoughts?
I like to believe in that idea... all this time trying to convince myself that its alright to live in now...I thought it hadn't stuck.
I feel frustrated sometimes when I know that I'm able to not be frustrated but I can't do it.
Myself picking on my Self.
I was pleasantly surprised as I watched my boyfriend continue on with such a passionate anger for weeks afterwards - just because he thought he had an excuse to feel that way.
Maybe now he's awakening.
Funny how smoking weed is so taboo, yet inebriating one's self from alcohol is so much more accepted by society. I'd rather be introducing myself to earth grown poison opposed to man altered liquids.
Its awesome that your able to feel so good without any altering substances, myself, I learned during the two months I was pregnant that I also feel just as good without them.
I reflected and learned, was completely able to be my self.
Just as I am right now, as I'm high writing this.

Oh that review is disgusting...Maria I am so sorry you had such a bad experience. I personally would have said F them and let them call security. Youre at a rock concert, you get up and dance.

I wonder what they said about Pat Boones show.

I havent check Sonys website for a while, but if it hasnt changed recently it has to go down as one of the worst user friendly sites I have ever seen.... Its slow on normal computers and the site is just one big maze which takes you ages to find anything you are looking for if at all
