Just curious if anyone has read this book? By Anthony Burgess, same guy who wrote Clockwork Orange? I'm intrigued to find it and eat it all up in one sitting.
I've heard it is eerily similar in comparison to where society is situated at the moment.... -------------------- the more you let Your Self be, the more you get to be yourself.

Now I'm really wanting The Wanting Seed.
My search keeps ending with me being book-less! No Bookstore seems to carry this title, nor able to order it. One kid at Chapters swore he has read every single one of Burgess' books and never heard of The Wanting Seed, but upon a Google search he was proved wrong. Now its a 2nd hand mission. If anyone locates this... please share where! -------------------- the more you let Your Self be, the more you get to be yourself.

Lovely! Thanks for sharing the find. Now I'm waiting on The Wanting arrival. Book Report time.. Heavy. My sister gave me a used, ripped up copy that was purchased for 95cents once upon a time, for Christmas. I ate it up in 2 days. Holidays helped that mission. The language is a little odd, although Clockwork Orange is a fine example of Burgess' love of making up words. But the message... quite intense. I loved most, the example given near the end of the story where War (which was outlawed for many years) was seen as another way of controlling the population. Men were tricked into signing up for the Army, thinking it was a loan of some sort, only to realize they had signed off a year of their lives. Upon being "shipped" to the desired location, they were sent into the dark thinking they were at war with their enemies. One of the main characters manages to survive and walks out the other side through a door to be told "nobody has ever walked out of there alive!". It intertwines humanities simplistic nature with societies twisted visions. My favorite character was Tristram, whom always seemed to get right into the gut of things before ever questioning authority. You could see his sheepish, following ways, but he was always quick to take the mask off and analyze the situation once he was submerged within it. He never feared asking the "tough" questions... Anyhow, if you can find a copy. Keep it on your bookshelf. It is a gem and a half! -------------------- the more you let Your Self be, the more you get to be yourself.

I read through the whole book and wrote my own glossary of terms before I realized there was one in the back of the book…lol.
I loved this book though! Props for shedding some light on it, although the graphically violent scenes may leave some readers feeling a little sick. -------------------- hypnosis course

I read The Wanting Seed out of a suggestion from a friend. I really did love it although I kind of lost interest towards the end. It was a book I easily put down but enjoyed none the less. Clockwork Orange fans might be a bit dissapointed, the style isn't as unique as his other books.

Such a realistic, odd-istic view of things. -------------------- the more you let Your Self be, the more you get to be yourself.
