Yoga is something I was curious about for some time but my understanding of it was always incomplete at best, even after having read several different books on it. Then I came across this book - it's definitely the best book I've read on yoga. Besides being informative, it's also visually pleasing with lots of pictures and very simple and short.
It starts with a brief history of Yoga and goes into an explanation of the values that Yoga practise holds. It explains how this ancient Indian tradition was practised thousands of years ago – interesting to note was how Yoga today is mainly focused on and starts with the teachings of physical aspect, whereas in the past – Yoga was a holistic practise and was incorporated in many facets of the lives of those practising it. It would take a student of Yoga 2-3 years before they would get to the level of stretching exercise, to be followed by meditation. The book provides an explanation of the energy systems in our bodies (although it doesn’t mention the foot chakra or any of the higher chakra’s beyond the crown) and how the overall Yoga practises, including its physical exercises and meditation can affect this system. Examples of various physical exercises ranging for the beginner to the advanced are given, complete with visuals.
I would recommend this to anyone who's curious about the subject of Yoga practise or even for anyone already practising Yoga.
