Just thought of this. Don't know if its a good idea or not.

The philosophy disscussions were always the best part about this board. Let's keep this alive.
firefly
So no one agrees? After second thought, I now think it's a pretty good idea. Especially if the General forum get's flooded with threads about t.v. series and celebrity sightings.

I think that with this group of people it will flourish.
perennial
i'm not against it... however would there be enough topics made to constitute the creation of a new forum heading??

I think so. Even if there isn't many topics at first I bet it will have the most posts. These discussions are the only ones that go one forever.

Maybe i'm just bitter abot what's happening to the forums at the present time.
perennial
that's why i made the "state of the board" post

Yeah, I almost started a post about emotions and how people think that we should strive to become emotionless.

But then when I looked at the "other stuff" forum I decided not to post it.

*shrugs
perennial
yeah... the "other stuff" forum kind of turns you off from posting things like that when all the other topics are more miscellaneous.

as for emotionless-ness (hehe!), i believe that the working world makes a person emotionless (for most of us)... think about it. we spend a third of our day working, a third of our day sleeping, and the last third just trying to live life. that doesn't really give us a chance to just lead and live life by our emotions and instinct. like that old post on the "exit" forums about life being repetitive... it just becomes a routine... an emotionless routine, like someone just pressed an "automatic" button from behind our head and we're off!

this is the "half-empty" point of view by the way... there are people that maximize their time out of the work world. but for those that don't, it just becomes a "task" that you have to seek out... i don't know if i'm making much sense... but yeah.

i think i just went off into a different tangent! but anyway... maybe this thread can become the "temporary" philosophy forum!

So true about the working world. Also I think our culture makes people feel like they have to supress their emotions, especially for men.

I was more talking about the belief that emotions lead to desire, desire leads to suffering . . . I never really knew what to think of it. Now I feel that this is totally not the way to go. I think during certain acts you want to remain emotionless (battle, open heart surgery, etc) but I really don't believe that it is the way one should live their whole life, like the monks do.

I think emotions are very important, for understand ourselves and others. You have to embrass your emotions, take them in and then let them go. That is the only way to conquer your emotions and to fully understand them. Even fear, if you find yourself in a position where you don't want to do something you know/think you should do out of fear, just take it in, let yourself be scared, let the fear flow through your whole body, embrass it, accept it, then you'll realize that it is not that bad.

I think that it is unhealthy to dwell on your emotions, to carry them around with you every where you go. That is not what i'm saying. What i'm saying is that if you fully accept them you'll be able to let them go. Art is also a good way to understand your emotions. If you channel that energy though art once something materializes you can look at it from another perspective.
perennial
i agree with the art thing firefly... that's why i want to try my hand at it before i have to succumb to the 9-5.

i think north america in general is too "self-conscious"... we think too much on how our actions will affect others and the ones around us that in fact we are suppressing our emotions and not embracing them.

I, for one, miss the philisophy discussions.  "is it possible" was such a thought-provoking, deep forum that I enjoyed visiting.  it was refreshing to know that ppl actually THINK and WONDER and CONTEMPLATE life!

Debating philosophy is so engaging...we should have a forum - I think it would be well-received...maybe K would ever visit there and contribute.  There isn't any place for him to share on this whole site, is there?  I find that odd and unfortunate.  He's such an insightful guy.

perennial
i enjoyed the old forum too Carma, but i have a feeling that we will not be seeing k post on this forum (but that's just my opinion! maybe he's just too busy touring and doing publicity for JR...)

it was okay back on "exit" because there was a little niche of us that actually found the message board and those of us that did stick around did enjoy the conversations and dialogue that resulted from whomever posted.

the new forum is too "typical" of usual message boards... the old "exit" board just had that one "Is It Possible?" forum and made it more "thought-provoking" like you said Carma.

I agree.  I doubt he'll come by...I find it interesting that there isn't anywhere on his whole site for 'musings' and such.  Too bad.

That old forum was sweet. . .hidden away for the die-hards!  hehe

K. I've set up new rooms and changed some names. The forum names as you see them now will be used in the new forum we're finishing up. I'm getting a designer to do the layout in mid-January (man, people have the nerve to take vacations!). : )
